ONE OF ONLY TWO PROVIDERS IN LUBBOCK

Hospital Dentistry for Kids

Safe, sleep-through care for little ones at the hospital. Some children are too young, too anxious, or need too much work to sit through visits in a dental chair. For them, we complete everything in one hospital visit while they sleep under general anesthesia, monitored the entire time by the hospital anesthesia team.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?

When the Hospital Is the Kinder Option

Very Young Children

Toddlers and preschoolers with serious decay often can’t sit through the multiple visits their treatment would take. At the hospital, it all happens in one appointment while they sleep.

Anxious Kids & Special Needs

Some children can’t tolerate dental work in a chair, no matter how gentle everyone is. Hospital care means no holding still, no fear, and no memory of the procedure.

A Lot of Work at Once

When a child needs fillings, crowns, or extractions on many teeth, one hospital visit is easier on them than spreading the work across months of appointments.
WHAT TO EXPECT

How Hospital Dentistry Works

1

Exam at Our Office

We examine your child here first, walk you through exactly what needs to be done, and answer every question. You’ll know the full treatment plan and the total cost before anything is scheduled.

2

One Visit at the Hospital

Your child sleeps through the entire procedure under general anesthesia, administered and monitored by the hospital anesthesia team. Dr. Menlove completes all the dental work.

3

Home the Same Day

Most children go home the same day and are back to themselves quickly. You’ll leave with clear aftercare instructions.

COST & COVERAGE

The Total Cost, Before You Schedule

Hospital dentistry sounds expensive, and at a lot of places it is. Here it works like everything else we do: you get the total cost of the dental treatment at the consultation, before the hospital visit is scheduled. We accept Medicaid and most major insurance plans, and payment plans are offered for the dental portion of care. Our team will help you understand what your plan covers, including the hospital and anesthesia portions, so there’s a clear picture before treatment day.

Hospital Dentistry Questions, Straight Answers

Yes. That’s the point of hospital dentistry. While your child sleeps under general anesthesia, Dr. Menlove completes the full treatment plan, whether that’s fillings, crowns, or extractions, in a single hospital visit. Your child wakes up with everything done.

General anesthesia is administered and monitored by the hospital’s anesthesia team from start to finish, and your child is watched closely the entire time. We’ll go over the plan and answer your questions at the consultation, and the anesthesia team can address anything specific to your child’s health before treatment day.

Hospital dentistry is often the kinder option for very young children with serious decay, children who are too anxious or have special needs to tolerate treatment in a chair, and children who need a lot of work done at once. The exam at our office is where we make that call together, and we’ll tell you honestly if regular visits will work.

We accept Medicaid, and our team will help you understand what your plan covers before anything is scheduled, including the hospital and anesthesia portions. Coverage can vary by plan and by your child’s situation, so we’ll walk through it with you at the consultation and you’ll have a clear picture before treatment day.

We’ll give you clear, step-by-step instructions before treatment day, including when your child should stop eating and drinking, which is standard before anesthesia. Explaining the visit in simple, positive terms helps too, and we’re happy to suggest ways to talk about it at your child’s age.

Hospital policies decide exactly how parents are involved, so we’ll explain what to expect for your child’s visit ahead of time, including where you’ll wait and when you can be with them after they wake up. Ask us at the consultation and we’ll walk you through it.
